OCAA COMMITTEES

  • Accreditation & Peer Group

    This committee focuses on developing accreditation programs and fostering peer group engagement. Responsibilities include creating mentoring and coaching programs and developing resources for commercial arborists. The committee ensures that industry standards are met and consistently promotes professional development through peer evaluations and accreditation processes.

  • Communications & Branding

    This committee is responsible for shaping the public and professional image of the organization. It handles all external communications, including the OCAA monthly News-blast, the organization's website, and business magazine. They also manage content creation for blogs, media, and social media channels to ensure consistent branding and messaging.

  • Constitution & ByLaw Review

    Tasked with reviewing and updating the constitution and by-laws of the organization, this committee ensures that the governing documents reflect current legal requirements and organizational objectives. They recently conducted a review in 2023, with a second edition scheduled for release in January 2024.

  • Day of Service / Regional Representation

    This committee oversees the coordination of the Day of Service events and ensures proper representation across different regions. Regional representatives are assigned to manage and coordinate efforts in their respective areas.

  • Education

    This committee is responsible for the development and delivery of educational programs, courses, workshops, and seminars. They focus on core education such as crane competency, first aid, and plant health care. The committee also oversees continuing education units (CEUs) and the Ground Worker Program.

  • Finance

    The Finance Committee manages the organization’s financial operations, including budgeting, investments, and oversight of insurance and administrative contracts. The committee ensures transparency, accountability, and sustainability through diligent financial stewardship. They collaborate closely with external accountants and auditors to uphold compliance and support the strategic direction of the OCAA.

  • Fall Symposium & Annual Members Meeting (AMM)

    The Fall Symposium and AMM Committee organizes one of the organization’s major events. They manage all aspects, from securing sponsorships to venue selection. Additionally, they facilitate board nominations, coordinate speakers, and manage awards and the silent auction.

  • Government and Apprenticeship Relations

    The Government Relations Committee enhances the interface between commercial arborists and governmental bodies. It supports the professional growth of employees, aids in apprenticeship status achievement, and promotes 444A and 444B qualifications. The committee also fosters recognition of these trade certifications as industry standards and works towards their potential Red Seal designation. The Government Relations Committee remains committed to advancing the professionalism and recognition of Ontario's commercial arborists through persistent advocacy and strategic initiatives. 

  • Industry Partner Relations

    This committee manages the organization’s relationships with key industry partners. They are responsible for collaborating on articles for the ISAO Magazine, representing the organization at various industry events, and coordinating sponsorships and exhibitions at events like the OTCC, WAO, and Canadian Tree Fund.

  • Membership

    The Membership Committee is dedicated to growing and retaining the organization’s membership. They run marketing campaigns, including Google Ads, and manage outreach efforts to increase awareness among potential members. They also focus on engaging current members to ensure long-term retention .

  • Public/Arborist Outreach

    The Public/Arborist Outreach Committee organizes community engagement events such as photo contests, monthly meetings, and networking opportunities. They are also responsible for planning the annual Golf Tournament.
